President's Report | Bannockburn 5–57 Panmure

Robert Cassidy

The President's back after his half-century to report on a superb 57–5 win away at Bannockburn — as good as we've played in a long time.

As good as we have played in a long time.
- Doug Bett, President

Members/Supporters,

Firstly, many thanks to Head Coach Neil Dymock for taking up the mantle of match day reports while I was away celebrating my half century. They made extremely interesting reading and made me realise that I may need to up my game or I may lose the honour of reporting to you!

To the game, and although I have to admit to being slightly pessimistic about our chances in the morning of the game, a stern talking to by the head coach had me brimming with confidence on the travel down. On a particularly windy day in Bannockburn the omens were good when Skipper Faulkner won the toss and we kicked off uphill and into the wind. Panmure took the lead early on through Ben Millar, which was then added to with a contender for team try of the season — some fantastic handling and offloading allowed Andrew Lindsay to gallop in under the sticks from 15 metres out. Colin Jeffrey extended Panmure's lead before Bannockburn got on the scoreboard themselves. Ben Millar added a fourth before half-time. Into the second half, with a comfortable lead, we put Bannockburn to the sword, with tries from Gordon Melville, Rhys Beattie, Liam Britten, Andrew Philp and a collector's item from Gordon Gray.

Final score: Bannockburn RFC 5 – Panmure RFC 57.

This was an all-round team performance and, while not perfect, was as good as we have played in a long time. Young players like Liam Britten, Ally McGovern and Chris Lowe continue to grow into senior rugby, aided by the experience of the older heads. Mention in dispatches must go to Andrew Lindsay for a dominant performance in both the tight and the loose, Angus Lindsay for his goal kicking, Ben Millar for his two tries, the boy David for his continued efforts to get the VEO camera up and running, and Jack "the Shepherd" Meadows for some of the worst touch judging so far this season.

We return to our spiritual home on Saturday when we host Kinross RFC, a game that is always tightly contested and I don't expect anything less this week. If you're at a loose end, why not pop down and give the boys some support. You never know — you might even be rewarded with a bite to eat or something to quench your thirst.

Finally, congratulations to Gordon Melville and Sam Babrowska on their wedding last week — a truly wonderful couple.

Play up Panmure.

Doug
